How I decided to be a therapist
My interest grew with the courses and topics about human behavior, abnormal psychology, psychological assessment, clinical psychology, and psychotherapy. It solidified when I encountered patients during my practicum at a university hospital. I realized that if we can identify a person’s mental health condition, there must be ways to treat it or at least prevent it. These scenarios inspired me to pursue my master’s degree and learn more about the complexities of human experience and behavior.
How I would like to help clients as a therapist
I believe that counseling and therapy are safe spaces and collaborative avenues for clients journey of healing. Every client is unique and has individual needs. I aim to work with clients by maximizing their strengths and developing resiliency through the process. I also would like to help clients be more compassionate about themselves because becoming an ally of yourself during life adversities can make a positive impact. I am also an advocate of preventative measures for mental health by providing psycho-education. We can work on significant factors for our well-being such as building self-awareness, finding meaning and purpose, healthy relationships, emotion regulation skills, and self-care, to name a few.
What my theoretical orientation is as a therapist
My counseling and therapeutic techniques for treatment plan is tailored based on individuals’ needs and preferences. I often use integrative approaches but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy, Person-centered, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).
